The long boat journey seems shorter as you share stories from your past. Your sides hurt from all of the laughing you do listening to Winston’s tales about how he would make the magician fall on stage. You don’t realize that you are close to shore until you smell smoke. It is so strong that you worry that the boat is on fire! You realize that the smoke is off in the distant wooded hills outside of the town.

“That fire looks pretty dangerous!” you say. Someone in the nearby crowd overhears and turns to you.

“We’re safe here in Hobart,” he says. “The authorities have it under control, and it’s not a threat to us here.”

“Great,” Winston says. “I feel safe here. Let’s find something to eat.”

“What about all the forest animals that are surrounded by fire?” you ask.

“They’ve all flown away by now,” Winston responds.

“But Winston, not all animals can fly!” you yell back.

“By the time we get there, they will all be gone and the fire will have burned itself out,” Winston replies. “I’m from here, remember?”

You say:

“I think we should try to help anyway, and I really want to learn more about the local wildlife.” {W-4-A}

Or

“I guess so, and I am getting pretty hungry myself.” {W-4-B}
