You run directly to the paddock and kick open the gate. The terrified horses run past you kicking up dirt and mud. One, two, you count all the way to twelve. They are all free and you approach the closest one to ride it over to the rancher.
“Come here, boy,” you calmly say while you try to catch your breath.
The horse runs in the opposite direction. Another one runs by. You hold up your hands and try to calm the third horse that you see. It approaches you and you realize that even if it doesn’t run away, you can’t ride it anyway. None of the horses have saddles.
“You didn’t think this one through, huh.” Winston says.
“No time for that,” you yell at him. “We need to help the rancher.”
You feel the pain in your lungs from the smoke and exertion, but you push yourself to keep running. By the time you get there, the rancher is standing next to his children, and extending his hand to thank you for saving his horses.
“We still need your help, getting out of here,” the rancher says. “That fire’s still getting close, and I’m afraid in no time it’s going to consume everything in this ranch.”
You look around trying to find a way out when suddenly a plane flies low overhead and douses the area with water. Soon you see the fire fighters approaching from the road with fire hoses and heavy equipment. They manage to save the ranch from immediate danger, leaving you and the grateful rancher soaking wet but safe. Eventually, the chief firefighter compliments you on your courage, and makes you into a deputy firefighter.
