You run as fast as your human legs will take you, but they are no match for dog legs.
“Wait!” you cry out. “Where are you going?”
“Away from the junk monster,” Tasi yells back without stopping.
“We’ve already lost it. We need to go somewhere safe,” you say, as you hear distant crashing noises in the background.
“I don’t even know where we are,” Singer says.
“Follow me,” you say.
You lead the three dogs back to your home. On the way, police cars rush by with their sirens blaring. You think that you see a SWAT truck round the corner as you close the front door of your home after the last of the dogs is inside.
“I always hide in my room,” you say.
The four of you hide in your bedroom. You hear military helicopters fly by overhead, going in the direction of the junkyard.
You feel a sense of dread creeping up, as you realize that you have to explain to your mom how you got home without her and why you have three dogs with you. You know that there’s no way that you can tell the story in a way that she’ll believe you. Fortunately, the three talking puppies are enough to convince her of the truth.
